Sun Hill Common (part of 'the greens') news
Autumn 2025AMAZING COMMUNITY EFFORT ON SUN HILL COMMON The annual cut of the Common was carried out on Monday 27 October by the super team from John O'Conner who has supported the community by helping manage the area since its beginning. The area has been registered with NHDC as an Asset of Community Value providing a valuable green space for the locals. The informal play area is used virtually on a daily basis by the community whether for football or other games as well as an access point to Therfield Heath. Sun Hill Common is part of Therfield Heath & Greens and the Conservators, managers of Therfield Heath, have also provided great support. Within the space of just under 4 days the cut grass was raked and moved into a huge pile by the local community. It certainly provides a good work out for everyone! John O'Conner returned on Monday 3 November to remove all the green waste using a large grab lorry. This year the annual cut coincided with half-term which resulted in all ages participating in the clean up. The area will now be allowed to regenerate for the benefit of wildlife and the ecosystem.
