WHO are THE FRIENDS OF THERFIELD HEATH AND GREENS?
The Friends of Therfield Heath is a registered charity, number 1192972. We are a voluntary group working independently of, but alongside, the Conservators of Therfield Heath and Greens to promote and encourage the use of, and access to, Therfield Heath, including organising events, raising awareness of the related bye laws and regulations and encouraging conservation protection, and improvement of the natural environment, and improved facilities for the users.
Membership runs for 12 months from your payment and costs:
£12 per individual or £16 per household (multiple people living at the same address)

The funds created will be used to benefit Therfield Heath directly either via Friends initiatives or by supporting the Conservators of Therfield Heath and Greens. Funds raised have been or will be used for supporting initiatives such as:

- Free entry to some member events
- Discounted fees for any payable events such as talks, led walks on the Heath, special events
- Information about local conservation and environmental issues.
We are dedicated to:
- promoting and encouraging the use of and access to Therfield Heath and Greens;
- raising awareness of the bye laws and regulations that apply to the use of Therfield Heath and Greens;
- encouraging conservation protection, and promotion of improvement of the physical and natural environment of Therfield Heath, and improved facilities for the users of Therfield Heath,
The funds created will be used to benefit Therfield Heath directly either via Friends initiatives or by supporting the Conservators of Therfield Heath and Greens. Funds raised have been or will be used for supporting initiatives such as:
- Notice boards with information on the most sensitive and botanically rich area of Therfield Heath;
- Additional sign posting, including more accessible maps setting out the various walks on the heath and their particular focus points;
- A booklet setting out key facts about the heath, it’s natural history, ecology, and suggested routes, and setting out information on how sensitive and precious the site is;
- Supporting ongoing conservation generally through volunteering, particularly with regard to fixed point photography, systematic record keeping, working with the Conservators to maintain the heath;
- Provision of maintenance equipment where appropriate; and
- Carrying out Friends initiatives such as the building of bat and bird boxes according to specification, fixing the boxes, and monthly activities on the heath such as bug counts, wild flower audits, bird watching etc.

(Chair) Bryony enjoys spending time outdoors, walking with friends and family on the Heath. As a former meteorologist she loves the wonderful views and changing skyscapes offered by the Heath throughout the year. |
Ann Smith
(Secretary) Ann is a nature and animal lover who supports local charities by volunteering for Wood Green and Therfield Heath. Ann enjoys learning about the different aspects of the Heath in particular it's history and wildlife. |
Ray Munden
(Treasurer) Ray is a wildlife enthusiast who is also a voluntary warden at Fowlmere Nature reserve, treasurer for the Royston Wildlife Group and is active in supporting several charities in Royston. |
Sally Marchant
(Membership Secretary) Sally is a dog trainer who runs two online dog businesses (www.naturallyhappydogs.com and www.dog-and-bone.co.uk) and can often be seen on the heath with her terriers and young children. |
