Vacancies
The Friends of Therfield Heath and Greens are looking to replace their secretary and chairperson.
The Secretary post on the committee is vacant now as our previous Secretary has gone to work abroad. The current Chairperson is stepping down in July after leading the group for three years. Therfield Heath is an amazing local asset with no local funding. It is a place of major historical importance and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Therfield Heath and Greens needs the championship of The Friends to promote and preserve it for now and future generations. Please consider joining this vibrant group of 100 members to ensure we can continue to enjoy this wonderful place.
Secretary position
The Secretary’s duties include writing the agenda and taking the minutes of the monthly committee meetings, carrying out actions from the meetings as appropriate, liaising with the conservators of Therfield Heath, dealing with queries from our members and the general public, being a signatory for the Friends accounts and organising the AGM.
Chairperson
The Chairperson is elected for one year. Their duties include managing the monthly committee meetings, carrying out actions from the meetings as appropriate, liaising with the conservators, promoting the Friends including occasionally talking to other organisations, being a signatory on the FOTH account, dealing with queries from our members and general public, reporting at the AGM.
Working together
The Chairperson and Secretary need to work closely with Treasurer to manage this local voluntary group. This year the Friends are planning to put on about 20 events. We try to spread the work between the 8 committee members and support each other so that no individual position is particularly onerous. Most months we have a litter pick and one other event. Generally speaking different committee members organise one event a year and take on the organisation and publicity for that event. Meetings are held via zoom on the last Wednesday of the month. We are now trying to meet face to face 3 times a year. Informal conversations take place in person or via WhatsApp.
